Thoreau Open: Vandeweghe reaches last 4
Coco Vandeweghe edged out Clara Tauson 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 on Friday evening and will play Chinese Qiang Wang in the next round
American wildcard Coco Vandeweghe edged out Dane wildcard Clara Tauson 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 to advance to the semi-finals of the Thoreau Open at Thoreau Tennis club in Concord on Friday evening.
Vandeweghe, ranked No 192, will face Chinese Qiang Wang next.
Ahead of her victory, the American defeated Alycia Parks (6-4, 6-4) and German qualifier Eva Lys (6-1, 6-1).
Tauson, ranked No 49, won against Katie Boulter (6-2, 6-3) and Australian Astra Sharma (7-5, 6-2) in the previous rounds of the Concord Open.
