Thoreau Open: Frech makes quarter-finals
Magdalena Frech edged out Catherine McNally 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 on Wednesday evening and will face the winner of the match between Chinese Qiang Wang and Swiss Viktorija Golubic, the No 5 seed, in the next round
Pole Magdalena Frech, the No 4 seed, edged out American Catherine McNally 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 to reach the last eight of the Thoreau Open at Thoreau Tennis club in Concord on Wednesday evening.
Frech, ranked No 107, will face the winner of the match between Chinese Qiang Wang and Swiss Viktorija Golubic, the No 5 seed, next.
The Pole won against Russian Anastasia Tikhonova (6-4, 6-2) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round of the Concord Open, McNally, ranked No 170, beat Russian Anastasia Gasanova (4-6, 6-2, 6-3).
