Dutch qualifier Arianne Hartono advanced to the last 16 of the Thailand Open 2 by beating Japanese Moyuka Uchijima, the No 7 seed, 6-1, 6-1 on Tuesday.
Hartono benefitted from Uchijima’s lackluster serving performance as the latter committed 12 double faults. She saved three break points and broke the Japanese five times to close the match in a little over 70 minutes.
The result marked Dutchwoman’s first tour-level win for the 2024 season.
Hartono, ranked No 180, will next play qualifier Xinyu Gao, who defeated qualifier Sijia Wei 6-3, 6-2 in the Round of 32.
