Russian Liudmila Samsonova won against Pole Magda Linette 6-4, 6-3 to advance to the semi-finals of the Tennis in the Land at Cleveland’s iconic Jacobs Pavilion at Nautica in Flats West Bank on Thursday evening.
Samsonova, ranked No 45, will play the winner of the match between Bernarda Pera and wildcard Sofia Kenin next.
The Russian beat Belarusian lucky loser Iryna Shymanovich (6-1, 6-0) and German qualifier Laura Siegemund (6-2, 6-1) in the previous rounds.
Earlier in the tournament, Linette, ranked No 67, won against Kazakh Yulia Putintseva (6-4, 6-2) and Romanian Sorana Cirstea (6-4, 6-2).
