Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the top seed, reached the quarter-finals of the Tennis in the Land by winning against American Peyton Stearns 7-6 (4), 6-3 at Cleveland’s iconic Jacobs Pavilion at Nautica in Flats West Bank on Tuesday evening.
Garcia, ranked No 7, will play Chinese Lin Zhu next. She improves to 29-18 on the season with her win.
In the previous round, the Frenchwoman beat Linda Fruhvirtova (6-3, 6-2).
Stearns, ranked No 58, benefited from the retirement of Italian lucky loser Martina Trevisan (6-1, 4-5) in the 32.
