Tennis in the Land: Alexandrova sees off Zhu for place in final

Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, the No 4 seed, advanced to the final of the Tennis in the Land by beating China’s Lin Zhu 7-5, 6-2 in Cleveland on Friday afternoon.
Alexandrova, ranked No 22, will play the winner of the match between Spanish lucky loser Sara Sorribes Tormo and German Tatjana Maria next.
In the previous rounds, the Russian won against Romanian Patricia Maria Tig (6-1, 6-4), Belarusian qualifier Aliaksandra Sasnovich (7-6 (2), 6-3) and Chinese qualifier Xinyu Wang (5-7, 6-0, 7-5).
Zhu, ranked No 48, won against Russian Anna Blinkova, the No 8 seed (6-0, 6-3), Austrian Julia Grabher (6-4, 6-1) and Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the top seed (6-4, 6-1) earlier in the tournament.
