Tampico Open: Mandlik beats Li in third set tiebreaker to reach quarter-finals
The American will play the winner of the match between Colombian Emiliana Arango, the No 8 seed, and Mexican wildcard Fernanda Contreras Gomez in the next round
American Elizabeth Mandlik edged out Ann Li 5-7, 6-2, 7-6 (6) to move into the last eight of the Tampico Open at the Centro Libanés Mexicano de Tampico on Thursday.
Mandlik, ranked No 138 in the world and daughter of multiple Grand Slam champion Hana Mandlikova, will play the winner of the match between Colombian Emiliana Arango, the No 8 seed, and Mexican wildcard Fernanda Contreras Gomez next.
In the previous round of the tournament, Mandlik defeated second seed Peyton Stearns (3-6, 6-1, 6-3) while Li, ranked No 156, won against Heather Watson (4-6, 6-1, 6-3).
