Tampico Open: Bektas beats Kalinskaya to win title
The sixth seed defeated Anna Kalinskaya 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 in the final on Sunday
American Emina Bektas, the No 6 seed, edged out Russian Anna Kalinskaya, the No 4 seed, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (3) to lift the Tampico Open trophy at the Centro Libanés Mexicano de Tampico on Sunday.
The win also see the 30-year-old break into the top 100 in the world singles rankings for the first time in her career next week.
Bektas, ranked No 104 in the world, defeated Mexican Renata Zarazua (6-2, 6-4), Australian Ajla Tomljanovic (6-7 (2), 6-4, 7-5) and top seed Caroline Dolehide (6-1, 6-2) in the previous rounds of the Tampico tournament.
Earlier in the week, Kalinskaya, ranked No 115, beat American qualifier Jessie Aney (6-1, 6-1), American Varvara Lepchenko (6-1, 6-2), American Katie Volynets, the No 7 seed (6-3, 6-1) and American Elizabeth Mandlik (6-2, 6-1).
