Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 3 seed, edged out Chinese Xinyu Wang 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 to advance to the second round of the Tallinn Open at the Forus Tennis Centre on Tuesday.

Haddad Maia, ranked No 15, will face Czech qualifier Linda Noskova next.
