Swiatek continues No 1 reign as Jabeur drops to No 5 in post-Wimbledon WTA rankings
There is no gain for Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina while the US Open champion Emma Raducanu breaks into the top 10 for the first time
Poland’s Iga Swiatek remained at No 1 in the world for the 14th consecutive week as the WTA rankings post Wimbledon were released on Monday. With points from 2021 Wimbledon dropping off and no points being allotted for the 2022 edition on account of LTA’s decision to ban Russian and Belarusian players, the new rankings have a strange vibe to it.
Ons Jabeur drops from No 2 to No 5 despite reaching her first Grand Slam final. The 27-year-old Tunisian lost the points she earned for reaching the quarter-finals 12 months ago. Ahead of Jabeur, Estonia’s Anett Kontaveit climbed one spot to No 2, Greece’s Maria Sakkari is up two places to No 3 and Spain’s Paula Badosa remains put at No. 4.
Raducanu makes top 10 debut while Wimbledon champ Rybakina remains 23rd in WTA rankings
This week also marks the debut for US Open champion Emma Raducanu in the world’s top 10. The Brit, who reached the fourth round as a qualifier in 2021 but lost in the second round this time, is up one position to No 10.
Newly crowned Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina, of Kazakhstan, remains at No 23 in the rankings.
Several players, who went deep into last year’s Wimbledon draw, saw their rankings take a tumble:
- 2021 runner-up Karolina Pliskova, -8 to No 15
- 2021 semi-finalist Angelique Kerber, -12 to No 31
- 2021 quarter-finalist Ajla Tomljanovic, -27 to 71
- 2021 quarter-finalist Viktorija Golubic, -42 to No 100
Meanwhile, 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams, who lost in the first round at Wimbledon this year, has dropped off the rankings this week after a year on the sidelines.
