Swiatek begins 19th week atop WTA rankings as Kasatkina returns to top 10
Kasatkina is back in the top 10 of the WTA rankings for the first time since 2019 while Kaia Kanepi reaches her highest ranking since May 2014
Poland’s Iga Swiatek begins her 19th consecutive week as world No 1 as she returns to the courts at this week’s National Bank Open in Toronto. Swiatek has a lead of 3,920 ranking points over her closest rival, Anett Kontaveit, and looks comfortably placed to end the season as world No 1.
Spain’s Paula Badosa, a semi-finalist in San Jose, moves up one spot to No 3, swapping places with Greece’s Maria Sakkari. Sakkari is followed in the WTA rankings by Ons Jabeur (No 5), Aryna Sabelanka (No 6), Jessica Pegula (No 7), and Garbine Muguruza (No 8).
Daria Kasatkina returns to the top 10 for the first time since 2019 after capturing the San Jose Open on Sunday. The Russian jumps three spots to No 9, a new career-high for her, but more importantly climbs to No 3 in the WTA Race to the season-ending Finals.
Britain’s Emma Raducanu, now just three weeks away from starting the defence of her US Open title, rounds out the top10 at No 10.
American Danielle Collins, who won the San Jose title last year but was unable to defend her title and pulled out of this year’s event, is down eight spots to No 17.
Samsonova , Kanepi make big moves in this week’s WTA rankings
American Shelby Rogers jumps 15 spots to No 30, a new peak for her at the age of 29, after reaching the final in San Jose.
Meanwhile, Estonian veteran Kaia Kanepi who reached the final in Washington, climbs six spots to No 31,in the WTA rankings. This is Kanepi’s highest ranking since May 2014 with her all-time peak of No 15 coming in August 2012.
Elsehwere, Washington champion Liudmila Samsonova is a big riser – up 18 spots to No 42; Romania’s Ana Bogdan, winner of the WTA $125K title in Iasi, Romania, is up 12 spots to No 63; and Czech Katerina Siniakova moves up 14 spots to No 66 after winning an ITF $100K event in Poland.
