Swiatek all set for Muchova rematch: “Anyone can play the best tennis of her life”
Iga Swiatek will use what she learnt from the incredible Roland-Garros final as she comes up against Karolina Muchova once more
Iga Swiatek and Karolina Muchova meet once more on Thursday, this time in the round of 16 of the Canadian Open in Montreal.
It comes two months after their epic Roland-Garros final in which the world No 1 triumphed 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 – having to come from a break down in the decider even though she had been a break up in the second set and cruising.
And the Pole says that match was a learning experience for her.
“I don’t think we need to forget about it. It’s more like we need to learn and remember what worked,” she said after beating Karolina Pliskova to set up the Slam final rematch.
“But then, on the other hand, exactly, it’s a different surface and different stage of tournament and different pressure.
“So I think any way we have to be ready for the next match and expect that anything can happen because tennis can be pretty unpredictable. You know, one player can have a bad day. At the same time the other one can play the best tennis of their life.
“So I learned that I can’t really expect anything in tennis. I can just be ready for my next challenges. Because of that, it’s kind of pointless to come back and to overanalyse everything.
“I just want to tactically learn from the previous matches to know what worked and what not. But, besides that, it’s a totally different chapter.”
