Stuttgart Open: Rybakina overcomes Paolini to move into semi-finals
The Kazakh will meet Pole Iga Swiatek, the top seed, or wildcard Emma Raducanu in the last four
Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the No 4 seed, won against Italian Jasmine Paolini 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 to reach the semi-finals of the Stuttgart Open at the Porsche-Arena on Friday.
Rybakina, ranked No 4, will face the winner of the match between Pole Iga Swiatek, the top seed, and wildcard Emma Raducanu next.
In the previous round of the tournament, the Kazakh edged out Russian Veronika Kudermetova (7-6 (3), 1-6, 6-4).
With the win, Rybakina has now won 24 of her 28 matches on tour this year and she is through to her first semi-final in Stuttgart. This is also her fifth semi-final this year and she has been unbeaten in semi-finals in 2024.
The win was also Rybakina’s 10th consecutive win in deciding sets – making her the first player to accomplish that feat since Naomi Osaka in 2019-2020.
Paolini, ranked No 14, defeated qualifier Sara Errani (6-1, 6-0) and Tunisian Ons Jabeur, the No 7 seed (7-6 (8), 6-4) earlier in the week.
