Strasbourg Open: Samsonova upsets Haddad Maia to reach semis
The Russia will face the winner of the match between Pole Magda Linette and American Madison Keys, the No 4 seed, for a place in the final
Russian Liudmila Samsonova, the No 5 seed, advanced to the last four of the Strasbourg Open by winning against Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the second seed, 6-3, 6-0 at the Tennis Club de Strasbourg on Thursday.
Samsonova, ranked No 19, will play the winner of the match between Pole Magda Linette and American Madison Keys, the No 4 seed, next.
Ahead of her win today, the Russian edged out Barbora Krejcikova (6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-4) and defeated Canadian Leylah Fernandez (4-6, 6-4, 6-2).
This is only the second time this season that the Russian has won three matches in a row at a tournament.
Haddad Maia, ranked No 14, beat American Emma Navarro (6-4, 7-6 (1)) in the previous round of the Strasbourg tournament.
