Frenchwoman Clara Burel reached the last 16 of the Strasbourg Open by defeating Romanian Sorana Cirstea, the No 5 seed, 7-6 (5), 7-5 at the Tennis Club de Strasbourg on Monday.
Burel, ranked No 122, will play Estonian Kaia Kanepi next.
