Slovenia Open: Rybakina reaches last four

Elena Rybakina benefited from the forfeit of Lesia Tsurenko on Friday and will face the winner of the match between Romanian Ana Bogdan and Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the second seed, in the next round

Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the No 3 seed, advanced to the semi-finals of the Slovenia Open after Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko withdrew before the match at Tennis Arena Portoroz on Friday.

Rybakina, ranked No 25, will play the winner of the match between Romanian Ana Bogdan and Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the second seed, next.

Ahead of her victory, the Kazakh edged out German Laura Siegemund (6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-6 (8)) and beat Czech Tereza Martincova (6-4, 6-1).

Tsurenko, ranked No 92, edged out Romanian qualifier Elena-Gabriela Ruse (6-1, 4-6, 6-4) and won against Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, the No 5 seed (7-5, 7-6 (5)) in the previous rounds.
