Chennai champion Fruhvirtova goes down to Wickmayer in Seoul
Yanina Wickmayer beats Linda Fruhvirtova 6-1, 6-4 and will face the winner of the match between Japanese Moyuka Uchijima and No 6 seed Emma Raducanu in the next round
Toiling her way through three three-set matches and over10 hours while claiming her first WTA singles title in Chennai last week finally caught up with Linda Fruhvirtova as the 17-year-old was knocked out of the Seoul Open in the first round on Wednesday.
Fruhvirtova, who climbed to No 74 in the latest rankings with the win to become the youngest player in the top 100, went down to former world No 15 Yanina Wickmayer, of Belgium, 6-1, 6-4 in one hour and 29 minutes.
Wickmayer, on the comeback trail after giving birth to her daughter last April, is now ranked No 460 and this was her first WTA Tour-level win as a mother.
She will next face either sixth seed Emma Raducanu or Moyuka Uchijima for a place in the quarter-finals.
