San Jose Open: Townsend books spot in second round against Kasatkina, first WTA win since February 2020

Taylor Townsend won against Storm Sanders 6-1, 6-4 on Monday night. She’ll play the winner of the match between Russian Daria Kasatkina, the No 7 seed, and Kazakh Elena Rybakina in the next round

American qualifier Taylor Townsend won against Australian qualifier Storm Sanders 6-1, 6-4 to move into the second round of the San Jose Open at San Jose State University Tennis Center on Monday night.

Townsend, ranked No 316, will play the winner of the match between Russian Daria Kasatkina, the No 7 seed, who defeated Kazakh and Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina.
