Croat qualifier Donna Vekic reached the final of the San Diego Open by edging out American Danielle Collins 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (2) at the Barnes Tennis Centre on Sunday.
Vekic, ranked No 77, will play Pole Iga Swiatek, the top seed, next.
The Croat has just beaten her fourth crack. She defeated Greek Maria Sakkari, the No 5 seed (7-6 (3), 6-1), Czech Karolina Pliskova (6-3, 6-2) and Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the No 3 seed (6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-1) ahead of her victory.
Collins, ranked No 19, lead 4-2 in the third but she lost her momentum after a one-day rain delay. She won against Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the No 7 seed (6-2, 7-6 (4)), Italian Martina Trevisan (6-2, 6-4) and Spaniard Paula Badosa, the second seed (7-6 (5), 6-4), earlier in the tournament.
