Swiatek scores 63rd win of the season to reach San Diego final
Iga Swiatek beat Jessica Pegula 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 on Saturday
World No 1 Iga Swiatek continued her dominant season by beating American Jessica Pegula in three sets to reach the final of the San Diego Open on Saturday.
The Pole came from a set down to beat the fourth seeded Pegula 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 at the Barnes Tennis Centre on Saturday night.
This was Swiatek’s 63rd win of the season – tying the 63 wins that Angelique Kerber scored in 2016.

With the win, Swiatek improves to 4-1 lifetime against Pegula, with all four of those wins coming in 2022. This was the first set that Pegula had taken off the Pole in those four meetings.
Both players have already secured their berths in the season-ending WTA Finals in Fort Worth, Texas which begins on October 31st.
This was the second set that 21-year-old Swiatek had lost this week, having beaten Chinese lucky loser Qinwen Zheng (6-4, 4-6, 6-1) and American Coco Gauff, the No 6 seed (6-0, 6-3).
Swiatek, ranked No 1, will face the winner of the match between Croatian qualifier Donna Vekic and American Danielle Collins, who play in the second semi-final on Saturday if the weather allows it.
