The Russian will face the winner of the match between Croat Donna Vekic, the No 7 seed, and American wildcard Katherine Hui in the next round
In a battle between qualifiers, 19-year-old Marina Stakusic, of Canada, advanced to the second round of the San Diego Open by beating 35-year-old Marina Melnikova, of Russia, 6-4, 5-7, 6-1 at the Barnes Tennis Center on Tuesday.
