San Diego Open: Pegula overcomes wobble, advances to semi-finals

American Jessica Pegula, the top seed, advanced to the semi-finals of the San Diego Open by defeating Russian Anna Blinkova 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 at the Barnes Tennis Center on Friday night.
Pegula, ranked No 5, will face the winner of the match between Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, the No 4 seed, and Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk, the No 6 seed, next.
In the previous round of the San Diego tournament, the American won against German qualifier Jule Niemeier (6-0, 6-4).
Blinkova, ranked No 51, won against Dane wildcard Caroline Wozniacki (1-6, 6-4, 6-1) and Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska, the No 5 seed (7-6 (6), 6-2) earlier in the tournament.
