German qualifier Jule Niemeier won against Frenchwoman Varvara Gracheva 6-3, 6-0 to advance to the second round of the San Diego Open at the Barnes Tennis Center on Monday night.
Niemeier, ranked No 126, will play top seed Jessica Pegula next.
