San Diego Open: Kostyuk upsets Pegula, to face Boulter in final

Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk, the No 6 seed, advanced to the final of the San Diego Open by winning against American Jessica Pegula, the top seed, 7-6 (4), 6-1 at the Barnes Tennis Center on Saturday.
Kostyuk, ranked No 34, will face Great Britain’s Katie Boulter next in what will be a clash for the biggest title of either player.
The 21-year-old Ukrainian beat American qualifier Ann Li (6-4, 4-6, 6-2), Australian wildcard Taylah Preston (6-4, 6-3) and Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, the No 4 seed (3-6, 6-4, 6-3) ahead of her victory.
In the previous rounds of the San Diego tournament, Pegula, ranked No 5, won against German qualifier Jule Niemeier (6-0, 6-4) and Russian Anna Blinkova (6-1, 2-6, 6-2).
