American Danielle Collins defeated Italian Martina Trevisan 6-2, 6-4 to advance to the quarter-finals of the San Diego Open at the Barnes Tennis Centre on Thursday night.
Collins, ranked No 19, will face the winner of the match between American qualifier Louisa Chirico and Spaniard Paula Badosa, the second seed, next.
The American won against Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the No 7 seed (6-2, 7-6 (4)) ahead of her victory Trevisan, ranked No 31, beat Colombian qualifier Camila Osorio (6-3, 6-4).
