Saint-Malo Open: Stephens beats Minnein to win title
The former US Open champion defeated Minnen in straight sets on Sunday
American wildcard Sloane Stephens won the Saint-Malo Open trophy by defeating Belgian Greet Minnen 6-3, 6-4 at the Parc des sports de Marville on Sunday.
Stephens, ranked No 48, beat French qualifier Emeline Dartron (6-1, 6-1), lucky loser Freya Christie (6-1, 6-1), Frenchwoman Jessika Ponchet (6-2, 2-6, 6-1) and Ukrainian wildcard Elina Svitolina (7-5, 7-6 (5)) ahead of her victory.
In the previous rounds of the Saint-Malo tournament, Minnen, ranked No 173, defeated American Claire Liu, the second seed (2-6, 6-2, 6-4), Jodie Burrage (6-4, 6-3), American Emma Navarro, the No 8 seed (3-6, 6-3, 6-3) and American Katie Volynets (6-3, 6-3).
