Sabalenka, Rybakina in same group; Swiatek, Gauff paired together at WTA Finals
The women’s season-finale, featuring the top eight singles players and doubles teams, kicks off on Sunday
World No 1 Aryna Sabalenka and former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina were placed in one group at the WTA Finals while world No 1 Iga Swiatek and US Open champion Coco Gauff found themselves in the other group.
The WTA Finals, being held in Cancun, Mexico this year, sees the top eight players gather together for the season-ending finale with four players being put into two groups for round-robin play and the top two advancing to the semi-finals.

The groups for the doubles competition were also announced with top seeds Gauff and Pegula heading the Mahahual group, while Storm Hunter and Elise Mertens leading the Maya Ka’an group.

The tournament kicks off on Sunday October 29 and is the final event on the women’s tennis calendar for 2023. Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia won the title in 2022 but failed to qualify this season while Sabalenka finished runner-up in singles.
Veronika Kudermetova and Elise Mertens are the defending champions in doubles. While Mertens qualified this year with new partner Storm Hunter, Kudermetova did not make the cut in Cancun.
