Elena Rybakina‘s nightmare second half of the season just got even worse after the former Wimbledon champion announced she is withdrawing from the Asian swing of tournaments due to a back injury.
The Kazakhstan player has struggled with injury and illness and had to withdraw from the US Open. In a statement, she said she hopes to return before the WTA Finals in November.
“While I’ve been working hard on my recovery, my medical team and I have decided it’s best to prioritise my health at this time,” she said. “This has been a challenging year and I am grateful for the support from the tournament organisers and all of my fans. My team and I will work on getting me back on the court before the season finale.”
Despite her issues this season, Rybakina still sits third in the WTA Race standings this year.
