Russian Elina Avanesyan edged out French qualifier Fiona Ferro 6-2, 1-6, 7-5 to advance to the last 16 of the Rouen Open at the Kindarena on Tuesday.
Avanesyan, ranked No 67, will face Russian Mirra Andreeva, the No 5 seed, next.
