Rabat Open: Sherif surges into semi-finals
Mayar Sherif knocked off Sara Sorribes Tormo in the Rabat quarter-finals on Thursday. Sherif will now face either Kamilla Rakhimova or Elisabetta Cocciaretto.
Mayar Sherif defeated Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo, the No 3 seed, 6-3, 6-3 to move into the last four of the Rabat Open at Union Sportive des Cheminots du Maroc on Thursday evening.
Sherif, ranked No 66, will face the winner of the match between Russian Kamilla Rakhimova and Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto, the No 7 seed.
The Egyptian previously got past Moroccan wildcard Aya El Aouni (6-2, 6-1) and Argentinian Maria Lourdes Carle (6-3, 6-2) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds of the Rabat tournament, Sorribes Tormo — ranked No 46 — beat Harriet Dart (6-2, 6-0) and Argentinian Nadia Podoroska (7-5, 3-6, 6-3).
