Gauff defeats Kvitova and books spot in last eight in Doha
Coco Gauff defeated Petra Kvitova 6-3, 7-6 (6) on Wednesday afternoon and will face the winner of the match between American wildcard Sofia Kenin and Russian Veronika Kudermetova, the No 8 seed, in the next round
American Coco Gauff, the No 4 seed, reached the quarter-finals of the Qatar Open by defeating Czech Petra Kvitova 6-3, 7-6 (6) at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex in Doha on Wednesday.
“I think today was a good start to the tournament for me. Petra is not an easy opponent. I’m happy that I was able to come out with the win today, and hoping to do well in doubles as well.” said the American player on press conference.
Gauff, ranked No 6, will play the winner of the match between American wildcard Sofia Kenin and Russian Veronika Kudermetova, the No 8 seed, next.
In the previous round of the Doha Open, Kvitova, ranked No 13, won against Chinese Shuai Zhang (7-5, 6-2).
