Siniakova downs Friedsam to set up final against Rybakina in Slovenia
Katerina Siniakova won her second match in one day to reach the final
Czech Katerina Siniakova won her second match in one day as she booked a place in the final of the Slovenia Open.
The doubles star – who completed the career doubles Grand Slam at the US Open earlier in the month – beat German qualifier Anna-Lena Friedsam 6-1, 7-5 on Saturday evening.
Siniakova, ranked No 82, will face Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the Wimbledon champion and No 3 seed, for the title.
Earlier in the tournament, the Czech defeated Italian Martina Trevisan, the No 4 seed (6-1, 6-4), Jodie Burrage (7-5, 6-1) and, earlier on Saturday, defending champion Italian Jasmine Paolini (6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (5)).
Friedsam, ranked No 213, won against American wildcard Elizabeth Mandlik (0-6, 6-4, 6-1), top seed Emma Raducanu (7-5, 0-6, 6-3) and Frenchwoman Diane Parry (1-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3) in the previous rounds.
