Polish Open: Sonmez gets through to the semi-finals
Zeynep Sonmez edged out Noma Noha Akugue (6-1, 1-6, 6-4) on Thursday.
Zeynep Sonmez edged out German qualifier and recent Hamburg finalist Noma Noha Akugue in three sets (6-1, 1-6, 6-4) to advance to the semi-finals of the Polish Open on Thursday.
Sonmez, ranked No 193, will play the winner of the match between Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska, the No 8 seed, and No 3 seed Tereza Martincova next.
Ahead of her victory, Zeynep Sonmez won against Slovenian Dalila Jakupovic (3-6, 6-4, 6-3) and Slovak Rebecca Sramkova (1-6, 6-4, 6-1). Noha Akugue, ranked No 152, beat Slovak Viktoria Hruncakova, the No 5 seed (7-5, 6-4) and qualifier Gabriela Knutson (6-2, 4-6, 6-1) earlier in the tournament.
