Swiatek marches on past Wickmayer, reaches Warsaw final
Iga Swiatek beat Yanina Wickmayer 6-1, 7-6 (6) on Sunday and will face Laura Siegemund in the final
Pole Iga Swiatek, the top seed, advanced to the final of the Poland Open by winning against Belgian Yanina Wickmayer 6-1, 7-6 (6) at the Legia Tennis Centre in Warsaw on Sunday.
This was the pair’s first meeting, but Wickmayer had come into the match with four wins over players ranked in the top 10 – however, the most recent of those victories was ten years ago, over Petra Kvitova at Eastbourne, then ranked world No 8.

After having a 5-2 lead in the second set, she lost three match points and allowed Wickmayer back into it at 5-5 yesterday, but eventually took the match on a tiebreak.
Swiatek, ranked No 1, will play Laura Siegemund for the title later on Sunday.
The 22-year-old Pole beat Uzbek Nigina Abduraimova (6-4, 6-3), American Claire Liu (6-2, 6-2) and No 8 seed Linda Noskova (6-1, 6-4) ahead of her victory.
In the previous rounds of the Warsaw tournament, Wickmayer, ranked No 109, defeated Japanese Nao Hibino (6-2, 6-4), Tereza Martincova (6-2, 6-2) and Heather Watson (6-4, 6-3).
