Poland Open: Siegemund edges out Maria to reach final
Laura Siegemund edged out Tatjana Maria 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 on Saturday and will face the winner of the match between Pole Iga Swiatek, the top seed, and Belgian Yanina Wickmayer in the final
Germany’s Laura Siegemund battled back to beat Tatjana Maria 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 and reach the final of the Poland Open at the Legia Tennis Centre in Warsaw on Saturday.
Siegemund, ranked No 153, will play the winner of the match between Pole Iga Swiatek, the top seed, and Belgian Yanina Wickmayer next.
Laura Siegemund won against Pole wildcard Maja Chwalinska (6-4, 6-1), Chinese Lin Zhu, the No 4 seed (6-4, 6-4) and Italian Lucrezia Stefanini (7-6 (5), 5-7, 6-3) ahead of her victory.
In the previous rounds of the Warsaw tournament, Maria, ranked No 65, defeated Serb lucky loser Natalija Stevanovic (6-3, 6-1), Dane Clara Tauson (6-4, 6-0) and Slovak qualifier Rebecca Sramkova (6-3, 1-6, 6-1).
