Baindl moves into Warsaw semi-finals with win over Martic

Ukrainian lucky loser Kateryna Baindl edged out Croat Petra Martic, the No 8 seed, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 to reach the semi-finals of the Poland Open at Arka Tennis Club in Gdynia on Friday afternoon.
Baindl, ranked No 190, will face Romanian Ana Bogdan next.
The 28-year-old, a former world No 62, had won just one match at tour-level prior to this week in Poland. She is the first lucky loser to reach a semi-final on the WTA Tour in 2022.
She improves to 2-0 lifetime against Martic with her triumph, which lasted two hours and five minutes.
After a trade of breaks in the final set, Baindl broke decisively in the final game, converting her second match point to lock up her spot in the semi-finals.
The Ukrainian defeated Belgian Maryna Zanevska, the No 11 seed (6-3, 6-3) and Italian qualifier Sara Errani (6-2, 3-0 ret.) in the previous rounds.
Earlier in the tournament, Martic, ranked No 56, won against Pole wildcard Weronika Falkowska (7-5, 6-4) and Pole wildcard Maja Chwalinska (6-3, 3-6, 6-3).
