Pliskova ends season early due to wrist injury
After a patchy season, Pliskova’s year will be ending earlier than expected due to injury
Karolina Pliskova has made the decision to end her 2023 season earlier than expected, in order to recover from a wrist injury.
The former world No 1, who has had a patchy year on the WTA Tour, made the announcement recently on X (formerly Twitter), saying:
“Hey everyone! I wanted to share some news with you all. Due to an injury to my left wrist, I’ve made the tough decision to end my season earlier than planned.
“It’s never easy to step away from the game, but I believe it’s the right decision to focus on my health and come back stronger next season. Thank you for all your support and well wishes. I’ll be working hard to get back in top form, and I can’t wait to see you all on the court next year!”
Tough season comes to an end for Pliskova
Pliskova, currently ranked No 36 in the world, made a deep run at the Australian Open in January, reaching the quarter-finals of the season’s first Grand Slam. However, it’s now been over five months since the Czech won consecutive matches at an event.
Most recently, Pliskova competed at the WTA 1000 in Guadalajara, winning her opening match against Ena Shibahara, before losing in the second round to No 174 Hailey Baptiste.
