Pegula saves two match points to outlast Potapova in Miami quarter-finals
Jessica Pegula prevailed in three sets over Anastasia Potapova on Tuesday in Miami. Elena Rybakina is next up for Pegula.
Jessica Pegula saved two match points during a 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(2) victory over Anastasia Potapova in the Miami Open quarter-finals on Tuesday night. It actually ended on Wednesday morning — at 1:30 am to be exact — due to multiple rain delays and the length of the match (two hours and 36 minutes).
Potapova served for the match twice, at 5-4 and 6-5 in the third set. The Russian even led 40-15 at 5-4 but failed to convert either of the two match points. With momentum in hand after managing to force a tiebreaker, Pegula dominated it from start to finish.
The American will go up against Indian Wells champion Elena Rybakina in the semi-finals on Thursday.
