Slovak qualifier Anna Karolina Schmiedlova advanced to the second round of the Parma Open by beating Hungarian qualifier Reka Luca Jani 6-2, 6-4 at the Tennis Club Parma on Monday afternoon.
Schmiedlova, ranked No 118, will face Romanian Ana Bogdan, the No 6 seed, next.
