Romanian Ana Bogdan, the No 6 seed, won against Slovak qualifier Anna Karolina Schmiedlova 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals of the Parma Open at the Tennis Club Parma on Wednesday afternoon.
Bogdan, ranked No 53, will face the winner of the match between Italian wildcard Matilde Paoletti and Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu, the No 3 seed, next.
The Romanian beat Brazilian Laura Pigossi (6-1, 6-2) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round of the Parma Ladies Open, Schmiedlova, ranked No 118, won against Hungarian qualifier Reka Luca Jani (6-2, 6-4).
