Mexican Renata Zarazua advanced to the quarter-finals of the Parma Ladies Open presented by Iren when Australian wildcard Ajla Tomljanovic retired on Wednesday.
Zarazua, ranked No 103, led 3-0 when Tomljanovic, ranked No 219, pulled out on Wednesday afternoon.
The Mexican will face the winner of the match between Croat Petra Martic, the No 9 seed, and American Peyton Stearns next.
In the previous round, Renata Zarazua won against Swiss Viktorija Golubic, the No 7 seed (6-1, 6-2).
The Australian beat Italian wildcard Nuria Brancaccio (3-6, 6-3, 6-1) in the previous round.
