Parma Ladies Open: Niemeier moves into semi-finals
Jule Niemeier defeated Zeynep Sonmez 6-3, 7-5 on Thursday and will play Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, the No 4 seed, in the next round

German Jule Niemeier advanced to the semi-finals of the Parma Ladies Open presented by Iren by winning against Zeynep Sonmez 6-3, 7-5 on Thursday.
Niemeier, ranked No 105, will play Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, the No 4 seed, next.
Earlier in the tournament, the German beat Argentinian Maria Lourdes Carle, the No 6 seed (6-4, 4-6, 6-0) and Indian Ankita Raina (6-1, 6-3).
Sonmez, ranked No 163, won against Italian Lucia Bronzetti, the second seed (6-0, 6-4) and edged out Ukrainian qualifier Anastasiya Soboleva (6-1, 4-6, 7-5) in the previous rounds.
