Croat Petra Martic, the No 9 seed, won against American Varvara Lepchenko 4-6, 7-6 (3), 6-2 to reach the last 16 of the Parma Ladies Open presented by Iren on Tuesday evening.
Martic, ranked No 81, will face American Peyton Stearns next.
