Kovinic downs home favourite Paolini to reach semi-finals in Parma
Danka Kovinic won against Jasmine Paolini 6-4, 6-4 on Thursday and will face the winner of the match between Greek Maria Sakkari, the top seed, and Belgian Maryna Zanevska in the next round
Montenegrin Danka Kovinic moved into the semi-finals of the Parma Open by defeating Italian Jasmine Paolini 6-4, 6-4 at the Tennis Club Parma on Thursday.
Kovinic, ranked No 78, will face the winner of the match between Greek Maria Sakkari, the top seed, and Belgian Maryna Zanevska next.
In the previous rounds of the Parma Ladies Open, the Montenegrin edged out Frenchwoman Oceane Dodin (6-1, 3-6, 6-4) and American Sloane Stephens, the No 4 seed (7-5, 2-6, 7-5).
Paolini, ranked No 79, won against German qualifier Jule Niemeier (5-7, 6-4, 6-2) and edged out Elisabetta Cocciaretto (4-6, 6-3, 6-4).
