Papadakis qualifies for the main draw of the WTA $125K Challenger in Contrexeville, France after a win over Vikhlyantseva that includes a golden set
Winning a golden set – 24 points in a row – to win a set 6-0 does not happen often in tennis. On Sunday, Lena Papadakis won a golden set 6-0 over Natalia Vikhlyantseva in the qualifying draw of the WTA $125K event in Contrexeville, France.
Papadakis went on to win the match 6-0, 4-0 (retd.) to advance to the main draw of the tournament where she will meet Australia’s Zoe Hives in the first round.
Papdkis, the 23-year-old from Germany, is ranked No 320 in the world, just two spots off her career-high ranking of No 318.
Vikhlyantseva, aged 25 from Russia, is a former world No 54 who is now ranked No 205 in the world.
This is the second golden set recorded on the tennis circuit in 2022, with Anastasia Sysoeva beating Fenni Lian 6-0, 6-0 in an ITF $25K event in Florida in May this year.
