Palermo Open: Top seed Zheng sets up semis clash against Parry

The Chinese player won against Jaqueline Cristian 6-1, 6-1 in thw quarter-finals on Friday

China’s Qinwen Zheng, the top seed, moved into the last four of the Palermo Open by beating Romanian Jaqueline Cristian, the No 7 seed, 6-1, 6-1 at A.S.D. Country Time Club on Friday.

Zheng, ranked No 7 in the world and a finalist at this year’s Australian Open, will play No 4 seed Diane Parry next.

Ahead of her win today, the 21-year-old Chinese won against Italian Sara Errani (6-3, 6-2) and Croat Petra Martic (6-4, 6-4).

Cristian, ranked No 66, defeated Argentinian Julia Riera (6-3, 6-2) and Italian Lucia Bronzetti (6-3, 6-2) in the previous rounds of the tournament.
