Palermo Open: Paolini into quarter-finals

Jasmine Paolini benefited from the forfeit of Shuai Zhang on Thursday night and will play the winner of the match between Austrian lucky loser Julia Grabher and Spaniard Nuria Parrizas Diaz, the No 8 seed, in the next round

Italian Jasmine Paolini advanced to the quarter-finals of the Palermo Open after Chinese Shuai Zhang, the No 3 seed, withdrew before the match at A.S.D. Country Time Club in Palerme on Thursday night.

Paolini, ranked No 61, will play the winner of the match between Austrian lucky loser Julia Grabher and Spaniard Nuria Parrizas Diaz, the No 8 seed, next.

The Italian won against Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (6-3, 6-1) ahead of her victory.

In the previous round, Zhang, ranked No 36, defeated Spanish qualifier Rebeka Masarova (7-6 (3), 7-6 (7)).
