Second seed Karolina Muchova reached the second round of the Palermo Open when Pole qualifier Katarzyna Kawa retired at A.S.D. Country Time Club on Monday evening.
Muchova, ranked No 35, led 7-6 (14), 5-1 when Kawa, ranked No 192, pulled out due to injury.
Karolina Muchova will face qualifier Noma Noha Akugue next.
