Palermo Open: Begu breezes past Rus to move into last eight

Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu reached the quarter-finals of the Palermo Open by winning against Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus, the No 5 seed, 6-2, 7-5 at A.S.D. Country Time Club.
Begu, ranked No 142, will play the winner of the match between Russian Erika Andreeva and American Ann Li next.
The 33-year-old Romanian defeated Spaniard Marina Bassols Ribera (6-0, 6-0) in the previous round of the Palermo tournament.
During the first round of the Palermo tournament, Rus, ranked No 62, beat Italian Martina Trevisan (6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-2).
