Palermo Open: Begu eases past Ann Li to book spot in semi-finals
Irina-Camelia Begu beat Ann Li 6-3, 6-4 and will play the winner of the match between Astra Sharma and Karolina Muchova in the next round
Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu advanced to the semi-finals of the Palermo Open by beating American Ann Li 6-3, 6-4 at A.S.D. Country Time Club.
Begu, ranked No 142, will play the winner of the match between Australian Astra Sharma and second seed Karolina Muchova next.
The 33-year-old Romanian beat Spaniard Marina Bassols Ribera (6-0, 6-0) and Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus, the No 5 seed (6-2, 7-5) ahead of her victory.
In the previous rounds of the Palermo tournament, Li, ranked No 127, defeated No 3 seed Peyton Stearns (3-6, 7-6 (7), 6-2) and edged out Russian Erika Andreeva (6-3, 4-6, 6-4).
